    Overview 

    The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy (KyPolicy) seeks to hire a Development Coordinator. The development coordinator will lead the implementation of the organization’s fundraising workplan. The position requires excellent writing and editing skills; efficient and accurate project and task management; and the ability to manage fundraising and administrative systems.

The organization strives for strategic, timely and analytically rigorous research as well as compelling, clear and accessible communications.KyPolicy seeks to influence public understanding and debate about state fiscal and economic issues and contribute to lasting improvements in policy. The development coordinator will lead the implementation of the organization’s fundraising workplan.


    Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the development coordinator include the following:

    Conduct foundation grant writing and grant reporting (50%)

    • Track prospects, pending applications and important deadlines through maintenance of a fundraising calendar.
    • Conduct prospect research to identify potential foundation funders.
    • Write and edit grant proposals and grant reports, including soliciting input and contributions from other staff as needed.
    • Compile and submit funding proposals and reports including through online grant
    • systems, ensuring timely and accurate applications and reporting.
    • Maintain accurate shared files of grant agreements, reports and proposals.
    • Support compliance with grant agreements.
    • Support the executive director in strategies to cultivate foundation funders including phone calls, emails, virtual and in-person conversations, and other outreach.


    Manage implementation of KyPolicy’s fundraising strategy (20%)

    • Work with the executive director to develop creative, timely, ambitious and achievable fundraising workplans integrated into the organization’s overall workplan.
    • Work with the communications director and relevant staff to develop messages, materials and collateral that are useful in fundraising and telling our story.
    • Continually track KyPolicy program activities to collect information useful for grant writing, fundraising and reporting, including anecdotes, quotes, success stories, metrics and policy victories.
    • Keep in touch with the nonprofit development field to understand effective approaches, strategies and tactics.
    • Participate in development trainings and learning through the State Priorities Partnership (SPP) and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), including by engaging CBPP staff and SPP development staff from other states.
    •  Monitor and report on fundraising progress through managing internal trackers.

    Coordinate individual donor fundraising (20%)

    • Support the executive director in implementing major donor strategies.
    • Identify and develop campaigns, hooks and windows of opportunities to raise funds from individuals and partners.
    • Oversee management and use of contact database.
    • Write and coordinate the sending of print mail and e-appeals.
    • Lead participation in fundraising opportunities (like the Good Giving Challenge).
    • Identify approaches to integrate individual fundraising asks into programmatic content and activities.
    • Work with the outreach director to execute fundraising events.
    • Process individual donations and thank you notes.

    Carry out administrative duties and support the communications director in carrying out communications activities (10%)

    • Provide occasional editing and writing support for organizational communications documents.
    • As needed, help the communications director get content up on the KyPolicy website.
    • Maintain organizational performance indicators tracker.
    • Write minutes of board meetings.
    • Carry out administrative tasks as needed.
    • Engage with and participate in KyPolicy’s efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion both in our workplace and our external work. 
    • Participate in organization-wide activities, meetings and training programs as required. 
    • Participate in organizational planning processes and the implementation of plans as it relates to this role.  
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Strongly articulated interest in and commitment to social, economic and racial justice.
    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Two years of experience in fundraising, development, communications, nonprofits, organizational administration or a related field.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills that demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize administrative processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
    • Self-motivated, creative thinker with the ability to work both independently and constructively in teams.
    • General knowledge of public policy issues.
    • Ability to carry out responsibilities and perform assigned duties in a time-efficient manner.


    Preferred Qualifications and Characteristics

    • Experience with and knowledge of foundation grant writing and individual fundraising.
    • Knowledge of and experience working in Kentucky policy and politics.
    • Experience working in nonprofit organizations and with advocacy efforts.

    Additional Information

    This full-time position offers a competitive salary, with a range of $49,130 to $67,276 depending on experience, and a generous benefits package. The development coordinator will be based in Kentucky and work from home with occasional travel to Berea for staff work/meetings and other Kentucky locations, as well as occasional national travel. This position will be supervised by KyPolicy’s executive director, Jason Bailey.
