    Position Title:  Learning Center Site Lead 

    Employment Status:   Full-Time 30 hours per week. Salary, non-exempt.  

    Hours:   30 hours per week. Must be available during center’s operating hours of  2:00pm to 6:00pm, Monday through Thursday, during the school year. Remaining hours are flexible within regular CF/CIS office hours. Summer schedule may differ. Minimal nights and weekend hours may  be required. 

    Reports To: After-School & Summer Enrichment Program Manager 

    Salary: Low $30,000’s annually 

    Location: Asheville, NC

    Organizational Overview: 

    Children First/Communities In Schools of Buncombe County (CF/CIS) works to strengthen both child and family by keeping students on track for academic success. Our Student Support Specialists work in K-6 schools to support students with improvement goals related to attendance, behavior, coursework, parent engagement, and social-emotional learning. Our after-school and summer programs provide students with homework help, enrichment activities, healthy snacks, and support with their individualized goals. Our Family Resource Centers offer food boxes, school supplies, emergency financial assistance and much more. 

    Position Overview: 

    The Learning Center Site Lead will report directly to the After-School & Summer Enrichment Program Manager, with special direction from the Director of Community Support. This is a team-oriented role that will also be collaborating heavily another Learning Center Site Lead, part-time Extended Learning Assistants, and other CF/CIS staff. The Learning Center Site Lead will be assisting the manager in planning/implementing after-school and summer enrichment programming in Learning Centers. There are currently two Learning Center Sites, each located within different public and voucher-based housing communities within Asheville, NC: Woodridge Apartments and Pisgah View Apartments. Each Lead will be assigned to a specific location and will lead daily after-school programming for students at that site. 

    Key Responsibilities: 

    Program Planning and Operations (About 55%) 

    • Assist Program Manager with management, planning, and operation of the Learning Center program, including the after-school (during the school year) and summer-camp programs  
    • Maintain Learning Center at or above CF/CIS standards; assure sanitation standards  
    • Assist with orienting and training other program staff/volunteers 
    • Assist with responding to and supervising volunteers at assigned site 
    • Assist with coordinating with local community partners to provide activities and resources for Learning Center programming 
    • Assist with various administrative tasks to ensure compliance with grants and other funding sources  
    • Assist with data collection and monitoring; review to make sure students are progressing toward goals 
    • Complete all paperwork in a timely manner, including but not limited to: activity sheets, attendance, behavior guidance, incident reports, parent contacts, etc. 
    • Complete/maintain vehicle up-keep and cleaning, as well as assist in coordinating vehicle maintenance as needed 
    • Work collaboratively with Student Support Specialists who are providing services to students on their case load 

    During After-School and Summer-Camp Program Hours (About 45%) 

    • Provide leadership to Learning Center personnel assigned to your site (Extended Learning Assistants, volunteers, etc.) during program hours. Inform personnel of your site’s activities for the day, directions for activities, location of supplies, and other needed information so that daily programming happens smoothly 
    • Take and record daily student attendance 
    • Interact with children on an individual, small and/or large group level 
    • Ensure the supervision, care, and safety of children at all times 
    • Facilitate activities; prepare and set up activity supplies as needed 
    • Implement behavior guidance techniques  
    • Prepare, serve, and clean up snacks and other meals as needed 
    • Lead local field trips with students 
    • Assist at alternative site locations, as needed 

    Staff Responsibilities: 

    • Follow CF/CIS policies and procedures  
    • Work collaboratively with all CF/CIS staff 
    • Attend trainings when required and funding is available 
    • Understand and demonstrate the mission and goals of CF/CIS, and represent the organization in a positive, professional manner
    • Communicate regularly with the Executive Director, Director of Community Supports, and other key staff 
    • Provide all paperwork and reports needed to CF/CIS in a timely manner 
    • Attend and participate in all CF/CIS staff functions, including staff meetings 
    • Cross train, share information and communicate with all applicable staff 
    • Other duties, as assigned 

    Education and Qualifications: 

    • Minimum of an Associate’s degree required, preferably in an education, social work, human services, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred 
    • Minimum one year of experience working with school-aged children, preferably in an after-school setting 
    • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered 
    • Background check required

    • The ability to do light to heavy lifting 
    • The ability to maintain a clean, safe, and visually pleasing atmosphere for children 

    We would love it if the candidate also: 

    • Has the ability to drive a 15-passenger van, which requires a valid state-issued driver’s license and clean driving record 
    • Has the ability to swim and supervise water activities 
    • Is certified in CPR, First Aid, and/or Lifeguard certification 
    • Has experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers 
    • Speaks conversational Spanish, Ukrainian, or Russian
