    Description

    The Southern Environmental Law Center is seeking an Accounts Payable Coordinator in our Charlottesville, VA headquarters office. Reporting to our Controller, this person will join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful, nationally recognized organization that is effectively addressing some of the most pressing and challenging environmental issues throughout the South and the nation. 

    SELC has a hybrid work model that offers employees the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Employment is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check and employment credit check. 

    Primary Responsibilities: 

    • Process invoice payments, review credit card and expense transactions on a timely basis, and assist staff with finance processes and procedures. 
    • Manage prepayment accounts and expensing on a monthly basis.  
    • Manage vendor relationships, including handling inquiries and resolving discrepancies.  
    • Participate and assist in annual financial audit and budget processes. 
    • Maintain a well-organized electronic filing system for all relevant finance documents and communications.  
    • Run reports and assist in reporting procedures – weekly expense, 1099, tax, lobbying, and ad-hoc finance reports.  
    • Train new staff in finance and expense procedures/policies. Create and maintain FAQ or other training resources. 
    • Support SELC’s Controller and Accounting Manager. 

     

    Required Qualifications:  

    • An associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field of study. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. 
    • 3+ years’ work experience in accounts payable or similar role, experience with processing invoices and reconciling accounts.  
    • Experience with general ledger coding, accruals and month-end closing processes.  
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Adept at working with staff on finance policies, procedures, and general day-to-day needs.  
    • A genuine interest in and commitment to helping SELC create and foster a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. You engage in ongoing personal learning and are eager to contribute to our organizational efforts in this area.  

    Desired Qualifications:  

    • Experience using Ramp finance software.   
    • Interest in environmental issues and SELC’s mission.

    Compensation & Benefits:  

    SELC offers salaries competitive with other leading environmental nonprofits nationally and provides an excellent benefits package.     SELC is a PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) eligible employer. 

    SELC will also provide relocation reimbursement for those relocating for an SELC position, up to a specific dollar amount and contingent on the move being at least 50 miles from the current primary address.
