    Description

Drake University Law School is seeking applications from both entry-level and experienced candidates for a tenure-track, tenured, or long-term contract position to lead the Entrepreneurial and Transactional Clinic starting in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Entrepreneurial and Transactional Clinic is a cornerstone of Drake University's business law program, having propelled many alumni to become innovators, leaders, and trusted advisors in their fields. The clinic offers legal support to startups, entrepreneurs, and community nonprofits, aiding them in establishing successful commercial and charitable ventures. It focuses on aiding entrepreneurs and innovators in underserved neighborhoods of Des Moines and rural areas of Iowa who lack the resources for legal counsel. Candidates are encouraged to envision a clinic scope that complements their teaching objectives.

The Director's role encompasses guiding and overseeing students in client representation. Responsibilities include selecting cases, designing the clinic's operations, supervising and evaluating students, conducting a weekly seminar to develop students' skills, participating in community outreach, and managing grants.

Applicants should hold a J.D. or equivalent law degree and be admitted, or eligible for admission, to the Iowa Bar. A stellar academic background, a notable record in clinical teaching or extensive practical experience, and a proven ability to excel in teaching, supervision, assessment, and service are highly regarded. A minimum of three years of legal practice is mandatory.

The appointment starts on July 1, 2025, and spans twelve months. Tenure-track clinical faculty enjoy similar rights and duties as other full-time faculty, with a focus on clinical education, professional expertise, research, and service to the University and community.

The confidential application review will begin immediately. Applications should include (1) a letter of interest, (2) a complete CV, (3) teaching evaluations (if available), (4) the names and addresses of at least three references, and (5) a statement that indicates how an applicant demonstrates an ability to work with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and ideas. Applications should be submitted via Drake's Jobs@Drake system.
