    Description

    The Program and Operations Director (POD) will manage the day to day operations of the shop with a goal to increase membership and implement new classes and programs for the community. They will work closely with the Board, Shop Managers, and other volunteer shop leadership to coordinate and implement programs and ensure smooth operations of the shop. As the first paid position at Twin Cities Maker, this position will also have the opportunity to help shape the training and development needs of the organization and lay the foundation for future staff positions.  

    Job Title: Programs and Operations Director

    Salary: $50,000/Year

    Work expectation: Average of 32 hrs/week (may fluctuate depending on events and on-call needs)

    Benefits: Negotiable – includes health insurance, dental, vision, retirement

    Time Off: Unlimited PTO as approved

    Location: On-site, with potential for some hybrid flexibility

    Reporting structure: Reports to the Board/President

    Responsibilities/Goals:

    25% – Volunteer Coordination and Collaboration 

    • Board: Communicate with board members on shop status, attend monthly board meetings
    • Treasurer & Bookkeeper: Advise on the the creation of annual budget and review quarterly budget reports for accuracy
    • Shop Managers: Assist shop managers with maintenance and volunteer coordination
    • Other Volunteers: Create new volunteer engagement plan, coordinate shop-wide volunteer tasks, provide relevant training

    25% – Program Development

    • Develops and implements programs such as
        • Community enhancement projects;
        • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs; and 
        • New classes to attract new members, engage current members, bring new constituencies into the organization, and fulfill contracts and grants
    • Collaborate with shop managers, events manager, and class teachers to develop and promote classes
    • Teach classes and provide shop orientations as assigned
    • Coordinate with outside groups to create new events

    25% – Tool and facility maintenance and documentation 

    • Coordinate with shop managers to implement tool maintenance training
    • Maintain tool inventory and document routine/as required maintenance
    • Maintain inventory of consumables and relationships with vendors, as assigned
    • Regular upkeep, cleaning, and maintenance of shop spaces and restrooms.

    25% – Miscellaneous

    • Interfacing with general membership on questions
    • Collaborate with shop managers to identify day to day needs and implement solutions based on budget limitations
    • Maintain regular communication with shop managers to ensure budget expectations are met
    • Coordinate events such as Quarterly Cleanups Twin Cities Maker Fest, pride events, and others
    • Other work as assigned

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work with a large, diverse group of volunteers
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative on tasks
    • Two years of experience with nonprofits in a managerial role
    • Familiarity with makerspaces
    • Familiarity with financial and budget management
    • Tool and facility maintenance experience
    • Volunteer coordination experience
    • Experience with curriculum development and teaching classes
    • Comfortable with task management systems such as Asana
    • Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check
