Job Title: Senior Campaign Organizer
Department: Campaigns
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid). This position requires an ability to travel.
Reports To: Campaign Manager Beyond Coal Campaign
Context: At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of interdependence. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel injustice, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our future. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club has close to 800 staff across the country and a network of 64 local chapters that are led and fueled by thousands of volunteers. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with three labor unions representing more than half of our employees.
Scope: The Senior Campaign Organizer is responsible for organizing campaigns which win real victories and build the grassroots power to accomplish Sierra Club priorities, which are: to address climate disruption, transform the energy economy, protect communities from pollution, ensure access to the outdoors for all and protect our lands, water and wildlife. The Chapter is a crucial partner for the Senior Campaign Organizer to successfully carry out strategic plans. The Senior Campaign Organizer works closely aligned with volunteers, partners, and staff across the state, while harnessing all of the strategic levers of Sierra Club including legal, communications, digital strategies and subject matter/campaign expertise. The Senior Campaign Organizer works to develop a comprehensive volunteer development strategy to support volunteers from onboarding to leadership through training, coaching, and mentorship. The Senior Campaign Organizer develops tactics and plans to achieve state based and local Sierra Club priorities and fosters a comprehensive media and grasstops engagement plan. The Senior Campaign Organizer works with the field & campaign teams to create educational materials, presentations and reports, research on priority issues as well as providing public comments, lobbying strategies, and develops subject matter expertise on relevant topics. The Senior Campaign Organizer represents Sierra Club at community events and with partner organizations, to government officials, the media, business and community leaders, and the public.
