    Primary Responsibilities

The Karsh Center is searching for a part time Volunteer Engagement Coordinator-- a thoughtful, organized, “people person” who will support the coordination and growth of Karsh Center’s volunteer engagement program by focusing on outreach/recruitment and onboarding of volunteers, as well as supporting implementation of volunteer programs and activities in service of our clients and the greater community around Los Angeles.

We are looking for a passionate advocate of volunteerism and the Karsh Center’s Volunteer Engagement program, who is excited to build relationships in the community and help expand our impact.

This position will report to the Director of Volunteer Engagement and is part time at 20 hours per week, including occasional Sunday and evening work, and will be based at our Koreatown site, occasionally at our site in Brentwood, and in the field for volunteer outreach events.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

    Volunteer Outreach & Recruitment

    • Work with the Director of Volunteer Engagement to implement strategies to identify and recruit new volunteers, from preschool-age through seniors; individuals, families, and groups.
    • Coordinate and conduct volunteer outreach presentations to potential volunteer populations, including schools, faith organizations, affinity groups, local businesses, fellow nonprofit agencies and more.

    Volunteer Onboarding

    • Work one-on-one with interested volunteers to provide support and move them through the volunteer onboarding process, including but not limited to:
      • Provide guidance about activities and the application process to potential volunteers
      • Host/conduct volunteer orientations
      • Work with volunteers to complete remainder of individual onboarding, including collecting applications and waivers, complete program-specific screenings, providing on-site welcome and training, and following up with volunteers after their first shift
      • Provide “volunteer referrals” to other Collaborator organizations to connect individuals to meaningful volunteer experiences based on their interests
    • Support Karsh Center data and evaluation strategy by tracking details of volunteer outreach and onboarding activities through Karsh Center’s volunteer management system, Volunteer Impact.

    Volunteer Activity Support

    • Along with fellow Karsh Center volunteer engagement staff, provide direct supervision and support to on-site volunteer activities at the Karsh Center in Koreatown, as well as occasional support at the Karsh Tikkun Olam Center in Brentwood
    • Support Karsh Center data and evaluation strategy by tracking details of volunteer projects and activities through Karsh Center’s volunteer management system, Volunteer Impact.

    Qualifications and Prerequisites

    • A bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector, volunteer sector, and/or community outreach and engagement
    • Experience working with diverse populations and doing outreach through events and presentations
    • A compelling, effective public speaker as well as excellent written communicator
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a good listener
