    Job Description

    The Development Specialist will assist the Director of Development with fund development, fundraising, and special events. This position is integral to expanding CCST’s funding base, developing strategies to attract new funders, and implementing these strategies. Additionally, the Development Specialist will apply for and source grants, RFPS, and contracts to secure additional funding streams and support program initiatives. The successful candidate will also create communication pieces to update current and prospective funders about our programs, track grants, and submit reports in a timely manner, as well as assist with organizing and staffing development events.

    Reporting Relationships

    The Development Specialist reports directly to the Director of Development and works closely with CCST's science services, communications, and S&T Policy Fellows program staff, board of directors, funders, and other stakeholders.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Budget Oversight

    • Assist in developing and monitoring fundraising budgets, ensuring accurate tracking of financial outlays.

    Fundraising Strategy and Planning

    • Collaborate with the Director of Development to craft and implement a comprehensive fund development plan aligned with organizational goals.

    Donor Cultivation and Stewardship

    • Implement strategies to engage and steward donors through newsletters, meetings, events, and other initiatives.
    • Re-engage lapsed donors and grant agencies to renew interest and support.
    • Assist in planning and executing donor appreciation events.

    Grant and RFP Writing and Management:

    • Research, identify, and respond to grant and RFP opportunities in partnership with the Director of Development.
    • Maintain a detailed grants calendar, ensuring the timely submission of all proposals and reports.
    • Help manage the grants and RFP process, ensuring compliance with requirements and providing timely updates to funders.

    Fundraising Events and Campaigns

    • Support the Director of Development in planning and executing an annual signature fundraising event.
    • Manage event logistics, including venue selection, catering, equipment, guest lists, and sponsorship solicitation.

    Community Outreach and Partnerships

    • Support planning and implementation of outreach events, including Science and Technology Week and briefings.
    • Participate in local events to build community connections and identify collaboration opportunities.

    Donor Database and Systems Management

    • Maintain the Salesforce database in partnership with the contracted Data Analyst.
    • Accurately record and acknowledge gifts and pledges, ensuring timely thank-you letters.
    • Use Salesforce to track donor engagement and generate fundraising reports.

    Marketing, Communications, and Advocacy

    • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to create advocacy materials and social media content.
    • Help to develop targeted communications for funders to enhance fundraising efforts and brand presence.

    Board Engagement and Support

    • Assist the Director of Development in supporting board members' fundraising efforts.
    • Coordinate logistical arrangements for Resource and Development Committee meetings.

    Metrics and Reporting

    • Research fundraising trends and analyze data to inform strategies.
    • Help establish and implement systems to track impacts and outcomes, collecting and presenting data for fundraising purposes.
    • Prepare for weekly prospect tracking meetings and monitor marketing campaign metrics.

    Annual Giving Campaigns

    • Monitor online fundraising campaigns like Giving Tuesday and Big Day of Giving.
    • Implement end-of-year giving campaigns with personalized appeals and matching gift programs.

    Other Duties

    • Fulfill additional duties as requested by the Director of Development to contribute to the development team's success.

    Desired Skills and Experience

    • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree and 2 years of additional experience are preferred.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workflows and meet deadlines.
    • Strong writing skills, including experience with presentations and proposals.
    • Interest in learning how to do successful fundraising, grant writing, and donor stewardship.
    • Self-starter with initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
    • Strong research, planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in Salesforce or other CRM software, along with Microsoft Office Suite, is desired.
    • High level of confidentiality.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Competitive hourly rate ranging from $25 to $35 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
