About the position:
The Sr. MHPSS Program Manager will manage the Ukraine response MHPSS portfolio, including grant and technical assistance partnerships with local Ukrainian organizations, direct supervision of MHPSS officer, and donor progress reporting.
Key Outcomes:
In the first 90 days, the Sr. Manager will:
· Learn and live the Americares values.
· Complete all require new hire onboarding trainings.
· Develop an understanding of the Ukraine response and Americares MHPSS portfolio
· Establish strong relationship with colleagues, local partners, and donors
· Take ownership of people management responsibilities, grant management, and progress reporting.
In the first 6 months, the Sr. Manager will:
· Maintain and deepen strong relationships with colleagues, local partners and donors
· Provide supportive line management for the Ukraine MHPSS officer and smooth program management for MHPSS grants and technical assistance activities
· Ensure technical program quality for all MHPSS Ukraine response activities
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ukraine MHPSS Program Design and Leadership:
· Leadership of strategic and operational planning for Ukraine MHPSS programming.
· Line management and supportive supervision of MHPSS Support Officer.
· Recruitment and management of any MHPSS temporary consultants as needed.
· Coordination and communication with internal and external stakeholders (emergency programs, technical unit, marketing, communications, development, finance, operations) related to Americares MHPSS work in Ukraine and neighboring countries.
· Support MHPSS program design for other complex emergency and humanitarian crisis portfolios as needed.
Ukraine MHPSS Grants Management:
· Lead grants and partner management for MHPSS grants:
· Oversee solicitation of MHPSS grants, reviewing concept notes and grant applications to ensure smooth coordination, on-time disbursement and technical quality.
· Oversee management of MHPSS grants during implementation, including regular partner check-ins for monitoring and reporting.
· Support MHPSS grants management for other complex emergency and humanitarian crisis portfolios as needed.
Ukraine MHPSS Technical Assistance:
· Oversee and deliver MHPSS capacity building and technical assistance for partners, ensuring technical quality for all MHPSS TA activities:
· Assess MHPSS capacity building and technical assistance needs of Americares partner network.
· Develop & deliver high-quality training and coaching/supportive supervision on MHPSS topics to address identified needs, including low-intensity/scalable evidenced-based interventions such as Problem Management Plus (PM+).
· Oversee implementation of monthly webinars on MHPSS and protection topics.
· Oversee implementation of psychosocial support groups and other community-based psychosocial interventions for frontline workers.
· Support MHPSS Technical Assistance for other complex emergency and humanitarian crisis portfolios as needed.
Ukraine Cencora Foundation Project Management:
· Project manage the Ukraine MHPSS components of the Cencora-funded project (pending confirmation of funding) including grants management, budget oversight, technical assistance, e-learning, donor engagement and reporting in collaboration with the Technical Unit and Development.
· Support Cencora Foundation project management for other complex emergency and humanitarian crisis portfolios as needed.
Complex Emergency MHPSS MERL & Program Quality:
· Ensure program and technical quality and alignment with ethical and global humanitarian standards for all MHPSS activities and grants.
· Lead M&E for all MHPSS activities, including overseeing ongoing research implementation with university partners and smooth coordination with the MERL team.
· Coordination with the MHPSS technical team to ensure MHPSS technical quality, knowledge management and best practice exchange with other global MHPSS teams and responses.
· Manage portfolio quantitative and qualitative reporting
· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Degrees and/or experience required for the role:
· Advanced degree in social work, psychology or related discipline, with coursework in mental health and psychosocial programming in humanitarian or low resource settings
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mental health and psychosocial programming with significant experience in disaster/humanitarian crisis contexts globally
These competencies are required for the role:
· Strong experience in program management, grants management, coordination, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
· Experience with people management in a remote, global context.
· Proven track record in developing strategies, designing programs, and conducting training and providing technical assistance in MHPSS.
· Experience with IASC and UN Guidelines and minimum standards
· Experienced trainer and experience developing MHPSS curricula, community-based psychosocial support initiatives, and Psychological First Aid/ MHPSS capacity building
· Excellent report writing and presentation skills in English
· Demonstrated resilience with the ability to be impartial and remain calm and adaptable under difficult circumstances.
· Demonstrated ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
· Contribute to identifying emerging protection and MHPSS risks and underserved populations for potential Americares support
· Demonstrated protection and respectful approach to treating affected populations with respect, dignity, and uphold the highest standards of conduct in dealing with affected populations, including enabling their participation, and feedback.
· Demonstrated ability uphold the humanitarian principles in the most challenging situations
US work authorization is required for this role.
