Department Description
The goal of TRP’s Immigrant Justice Department is to provide opportunities for authentic local immigrant leadership, to offer holistic community-based immigration legal services, and to work in coalitions to expand access to legal representation. The Immigrant Justice Legal Clinic offers direct legal services while engaging clients in advocacy and education, and provides resources for the community to prepare for changes in immigration
General Job Description
The Senior Organizer mentors and trains organizers and lead Promotoras (Community Navigators). In partnership with the team, the senior organizer assures the success of the Community Navigator and Parent Mentor programs within TRP. The Senior Organizer also works on all immigrant justice campaigns.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Assures TRP recruits, trains, and organizes Community Navigators and Parent Mentors.
· Lead the development of curriculum and implementation for TRP leader trainings.
· Develop strategies to connect clients to TRP’s broader organizing campaigns.
· Assist organizers and lead Community Navigators in developing and executing trainings, actions, and celebrations with TRP’s base of leaders.
· Ensure up-to-date information about Community Navigators is in the organizational database.
· Ensure reporting required by grants is submitted on time and accurately.
· Actively participate in public education workshops regarding important immigration issues facing the community.
· Represent TRP at interagency organizing tables.
· Assist with implementation of communications and marking plan for department.
· Must keep current of changes in immigration law and procedures.
· Cultivate, manage, and expand relationships with participants, leaders and TRP partner institutions to promote and further TRP’s organizational mission.
· Maintain required job skills and core professional competencies.
· Attend and participate in required educational programs and staff meetings.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Performance Measures
· Number of Community Navigators and Parent Mentors trained
· Number of trainings given to Navigators, Parent Mentors and to community.
· Number of total attendees at trainings
· Successful campaign events (actions)
· Media hits
· Social media presence
· Active participation in meetings and programs
Essential Knowledge and Skills
· Bilingual in English and Spanish is required
· Experience in working with immigrant communities.
· Demonstrated commitment to immigrant justice.
· 3 or more years of experience in working with immigrant communities.
· Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with people of diverse social, faith, economic and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
· Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, and organization skills.
· Demonstrated public speaking skills.
· Proficient knowledge of MS Office and Internet required.
Special Working Conditions and Demands
· Willingness to work flexible hours; some evenings and weekends required.
· Access to a car, valid driver’s license and insurance, and ability to travel throughout the state.
Position Classification and Salary Full-Time, Exempt, $60,000 - $70,000 annually
