    Position Description

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AND COMPETENCIES

    Passion for Mission

    • Communicates a real passion for the Save One Life mission and/or children’s issues

    • Creates internal and external advocates for the mission

    • Able to travel and relate to partners and beneficiaries in developing countries

    Strategic Thinker and Leader

    • Focuses key stakeholders on mission critical long-term initiatives through effective strategic planning

    • Challenges and inspires the organization to consider the “big” picture

    • In conjunction with stakeholders, translates strategies into concrete action plans

    • Executes short- and long-term plans and uses tangible metrics to ensure success

    • Possesses contextual intelligence and balances strategy, execution, and accountability

    • Develops and executes a comprehensive strategic plan in partnership with the staff and board of directors

    Fundraising/Development Expertise

    • Demonstrated development/fundraising or client development experience

    • Entrepreneurial thinker who is creative about raising money

    • Courageous about making big “asks”

    • Experience creating partnerships with external constituents

    • Develops and executes on initiatives with corporations and individuals that are mutually beneficial

    • Manages donor stewardship and identifies new opportunities

    • Provides oversight to fundraising and marketing initiatives/events/activities

    Outstanding People Skills

    • Articulate communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills

    • Team-oriented: the mission, rather than an individual, is the priority

    • Ability to build relationships and effectively work with multiple stakeholder groups

    (e.g., families, employees, volunteers, media, donors, beneficiaries)

    • Values constituents and creates meaningful opportunities to engage all stakeholders

    • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment

    Board Experience

    • Builds an effective, powerful, high-impact board and develops strong relationships

    • Measures board members’ success and provides effective feedback for accountability

    • Demonstrated experience working with a Board of Directors and key business leaders.

    •Ability to successfully promote Save One Life to potential board members and engage them in the mission

    Financial Management

    • Sets financial goals and holds the team accountable for specific results

    • Transparency: shares information across the organization and with the board

    • Operates in a business-like/professional setting

    •Provides oversight for operational, programming and fiscal management

    Organizational Leadership

    • Develops the full potential of skill sets into capable executives and leaders by

    creating personal development programs and measuring success

    • Creates real opportunities for intellectual and role advancement for the team

    • Ensures that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.

    • Implements effective succession planning for the ED role and other key

    positions

    • Courageous, confident and decisive – builds consensus and makes tough decisions

    • Leads via influence and shares leadership by empowering team members

    • Sets the tone and leads the team to create a positive and inclusive culture

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

    The ideal candidate will possess the following professional and personal attributes:

    • A leader with a passion for the mission - a leader who leads from the heart and is a champion of this work

    • A proven track record of fundraising and identification of new sources of revenue

    • A proven people leader – someone who has led teams; mentor of staff who can develop and maintain a positive organizational culture

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree or advanced training in business, finance, nonprofit management, or related field preferred

    *Experience working with the bleeding disorders community preferred but not required

    • Minimum of seven (7) years of senior level experience in nonprofit leadership including strength in: Fundraising, Operations, Board Governance, and Organizational Leadership

    • A strong communicator who is comfortable being the face of the organization locally and globally

    • An equity minded leader who brings an understanding of diversity, equity, cultural sensitivity, and inclusion to ensure greater engagement with diverse communities

    • A strategic, growth-oriented leader who can also plan and execute short-term objectives in pursuit of a long-term vision and create action plans that yield results

    • A hands-on leader not averse to “getting their hands dirty” in diverse operational tasks, international travel to developing countries, and being relatable to those we serve

    • Proven experience working with nonprofit boards; highly skilled at identifying, recruiting, and engaging board members, donors, volunteers, and community members

    • Personal ethics and integrity that reflect positively on the mission and the organization; a passionate and convincing champion for the mission who is involved in and respected in the nonprofit community
