    The Opportunity

    The Board of Directors (Board) of The College for Behavioral Health Leadership (CBHL) is seeking to appoint a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who can build upon CBHL’s decades long legacy of behavioral health leadership support and launch the organization into its next phase of growth. The ideal candidate must have a background in behavioral health and a proven track record of organizational growth and community impact.

    CBHL is a small organization with significant influence. We have decades of being the place for behavioral health leaders to learn and share practices with their peers. We promote equity-grounded leadership, conversations on workforce policy, and share promising practices to promote local action. We share expertise, cross-pollinate ideas, and develop actionable skills. We are committed to equity, believe recovery is the expectation, and strive for wellbeing across the lifespan.

    Our membership reflects a diversity of experience, expertise, and perspective. Members are individuals and organizations from both public and private organizations whose work focuses directly on or intersects with behavioral health.

    Job Summary

    The CEO is responsible for developing the vision and implementing the mission of CBHL. The CEO serves as the public face of CBHL, working in close partnership with the Board. The CEO reports to the Board of Directors and manages all staff and contracted personnel.  

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    • Provide leadership in developing strategic vision and programs.    
    • Plan, actively manage, and oversee CBHL’s operations, programs, fund development, and membership activities while ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability.
    • Advance CBHL’s visibility and profile by representing CBHL in key industry events in the United States and with our international partner, Global Leadership Exchange (GLE).
    • Support and expand the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and social justice. 
    • Oversee administrative functions and fiscal management in partnership with the Board. Routinely report performance to the Board.
    • Assure CBHL makes consistent and timely progress in its mission and goals, and report on results to the Board.
    • Expand fundraising in collaboration with the Board, including grant writing and building and sustaining relationships with philanthropic and strategic partners.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with CBHL Board, membership, strategic partners and other public leaders, fostering collaboration and mutual support.
    • Supervise all staff and contracted personnel and create a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help CBHL achieve its objectives.
    • Assure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Master’s degree in behavioral health, business, public health or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
    • Requires 7 years of prior leadership experience in a professional and/or lived experience capacity at a nonprofit, foundation, government or relevant industry.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
    • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
    • Capacity to think strategically, critically, and respond analytically;
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and virtual communications and collaborations platforms such as Zoom, Constant Contact, Dropbox and Basecamp.

    Physical/Environmental Requirements

    • Frequently required to sit, use manual dexterity, speak, listen, and write.
    • The majority of work is virtual – a suitable home working environment required.
    • Requires some travel for in-person convenings and events.
