    Description

    This position will be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Washington, D.C. FIRE operates on a hybrid work schedule that allows for a mix of in-the-office and remote work for eligible employees. This position is not eligible for remote work. 

    FIRE is seeking an entrepreneurial full-time Email Marketing Specialist to join its Administration team.

    The Email Marketing Specialist will be responsible for overseeing FIRE’s email marketing program. The Specialist will ensure the program advances FIRE’s institutional goals and maintains industry best practices.The Specialist should be an enthusiastic self-starter who is excited to share FIRE news and commentary with our subscribers.

    Position Description

    The Email Marketing Specialist will report directly to FIRE’s Data Governance and Strategy Manager and will work closely with FIRE’s Information Technology and Mobilization departments. The Specialist will also assist other FIRE departments with email strategy for their particular audiences and lists.

    The duties for this position include, but are not limited to: 

    • Overseeing FIRE’s overall email marketing strategy and ensuring the strategy advances FIRE’s goals and objectives and is consistent with industry best practices.
    • Managing FIRE’s email marketing platform/database, Pardot.
    • Building email marketing automation for different FIRE audiences, including by assisting FIRE departments in building journeys for their particular audiences.
    • Conducting A/B and multivariate testing.
    • Maintaining FIRE’s email and domain reputations for superior deliverability and adherence to spam laws and best practices. For example, ensuring our marketing communications avoid spam filters.
    • Implementing remarketing campaigns.
    • Working with FIRE’s Information Technology department to set up forms for email acquisition on FIRE’s website and elsewhere (i.e., Pardot and Formstack forms — FIRE’s website is on a Drupal CMS).
    • Working with the Communications department to develop strategies for addressing recipients’ responses to email marketing communications.
    • Outlining strategies for reactivation campaigns.
    • Setting email program goals and key performance indicators, then reporting on performance.

    This position will be expected to perform certain miscellaneous support functions necessary for FIRE’s day-to-day operations and will frequently collaborate with other staff members and departments on general duties and specialized projects.

    This position involves limited travel. Occasional work on weekends and evenings should be expected.

    The expected start date for this position is as soon as possible.

    Qualifications 

    A successful Email Marketing Specialist will be judged on the quality of email marketing communications sent and to what degree those communications help FIRE achieve institutional goals and objectives. Their performance will also be evaluated on how well they manage the overall email marketing program by, for example, maintaining our email database (Pardot) and providing expert email marketing support and guidance to FIRE staff and departments.

    A successful candidate must be entrepreneurial, organized, and creative with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Most importantly, the candidate must exercise superb judgment and demonstrate a knowledge of, and passion for, FIRE’s mission and an ability to articulate that passion in a way that will make others enthusiastic about our cause.

    A candidate must also be able to demonstrate:

    • Experience with Google Analytics and using UTM codes.
    • Some familiarity with HTML and CSS.
    • Strong written and verbal communication and general copy editing skills.
    • A desire to always improve their performance and FIRE’s programs.
    • The ability to work well independently and with others in a collaborative team environment.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • An entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to identify opportunities and run with them. 

    Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (or substantial relevant experience) and three or more years of relevant professional experience. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience using Pardot, Salesforce, and/or managing an email marketing program for a cause-based organization.

    Starting salary is negotiable and depends on experience and education level. FIRE conducts periodic evaluations where employees may receive raises or bonuses for outstanding and excellent work.
