    Description

    The Executive Director of the Paso Robles Children’s Museum is a strong and dynamic leader who understands, supports, and promotes the mission of the organization while working closely with the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for implementing the plans and policies authorized by the board, as well as developing organizational and financial plans and programs. S/he is a well-organized self-starter who oversees the daily operations of the organization and is responsible for resource development, long term planning, execution of major exhibits and building strong relationships within the community. 

    Position Description:

    The Executive Director reports directly to and communicates fully and frequently with the Board of Directors. The ED has the operational authority to carry out the duties and responsibilities assigned by the Board of Directors within the framework of policies, plans and budget as specified in the Museums by-laws. S/he is accountable to the entire Board through the Board President. The ED is expected to attend Board meetings, fundraise, and participate in public relations activities. Desired skills include grant writing, fundraising, budgeting, event planning, customer service, problem solving, HR, organization, and management. 

    Responsibilities Include:

    Resource Development + Marketing

    • Actively seek and develop grant opportunities and manage to ensure they are compliant with requirements.
    • Plan major activities and events, including the annual fundraiser, Cioppino & Vino.
    • Engage the Board of Directors by setting goals, creating committees, strategies, and tracking results. 
    • Develop relationships within the community to support fundraising, donations, and partnerships. 
    • Seek involvement from local businesses through the museum’s exhibit sponsorship program. 
    • Initiate, manage, and account for fund drives including the end of year Annual Appeal letter. 
    • Advertise all programs, special events or new exhibits and submit press releases when appropriate.
    • Oversee standards on social media, working with the Operations Manager to build engagement and upkeep the website.
    • Provide an Annual Report at the end of every fiscal year and make available on the website and deliver to the City of Paso Robles. 
    • Represent the Children’s Museum in the community and serve as museum spokesperson. 

    Exhibits + Special Projects  

    • Provide supervision and leadership for the planning, procurement, and project management for major exhibit installations and replacements.
    • Build a long term plan for opportunities to modernize the museum with new exhibits and decommission older exhibits.
    • Coordinate with city planning offices and third party contractors to adhere to local regulations for exhibits, obtain necessary permits, and ensure the highest level of safety standards are met.
    • Solicit the board’s input on major projects related to new exhibits and work collaboratively with the board to identify potential funding sources and identify impacts to existing exhibits and programs

    Financial, Accounting + Board of Directors

    • Manage daily register balance and weekly deposits.
    • Work cooperatively with the Board Treasurer and Bookkeeper.
    • Create and manage an annual budget approved by the Board of Directors, report monthly.
    • Inform and educate the board with current events and activities.
    • Can effectively solve problems.

    Daily Operations + Customer Service

    • Provide supervision and leadership for the Operations Manager and supporting team including HR responsibilities and hiring.
    • Create standard operating procedures to and company policies to reflect the highest standards of customer service and promote consistency. 
    • Continue program development, exhibit rotation or updates in response to public demand and oversee any necessary maintenance and cleanliness. 
    • Grow the Community Partner Program and School Field Trip Program.
    • Maintain the database used for museum operation and development tracking. 
    • Maintain all documentation required including permits, licenses, and insurance.

    This is a locally based full time position that will require onsite time at the Museum and conducting in person community building. Part-time employment would be considered. Salary: $70,000 - $85,000
