    Description

    SUMMARY: The Sr. Accountant must exemplify excellent technical skills and knowledge of accounting principles and concepts related to financial reporting. The Sr. Accountant must possess the ability to interpret and offer solutions to complex accounting problems. The Sr. Accountant will work closely with the Assistant Finance Director and the CFO on day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department. The Sr. Accountant maintains necessary schedules and documentation for monthly closings, quarterly reviews, and the annual audit. Sr Accountant reviews financial data for accuracy, reasonableness, and completeness; Applies GAAP Reporting Standards without exception. Manages and complete special projects and reporting requirements in a timely and accurate fashion. 

    Essential Duties

    Accounting

    • Prepare day-to-day and month-end close entries including revenue, payroll, prepaid expenses, depreciation, unbilled accounts receivable, and accrued liabilities 
    • Reconciling sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
    • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts 
    • Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets and prepaid schedules
    • Reconciliation of HSA, DCA and FSA Accounts
    • Assist with month-end and fiscal year-end closing process in accordance with GAAP
    • Assists CFO and external auditors at year-end with preparing schedules, providing explanations of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary reports and schedules 
    • Responsible for recommending and enforcing the internal controls, policies, and procedures 
    • Performing monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position
    • Preparing monthly financial statements
    • Assists with annual budget preparation and support
    • Maintain chart of accounts and determine proper account coding for all classes of transactions in accordance with organizations policy
    • Supports CFO and other finance staff, as needed, for various health center reports such as Medicare cost report, grant budgeting, 401k reconciliations, payroll reporting, etc

    Grants Management (in partnership with other Sr. Accountants)

    • Responsible for technical assistance and general support of grants administration and financial reporting, including federal grants (such as the 330 FQHC and Ryan White Part C grants), state grants (such as the Pennsylvania Challenge Grants), and private grants. Works with project teams to develop program budgets for state and private grants
    • Responsible for grants and revenue management across health center departments, in particular reconciling general ledger reports with patient billing systems, the donor database, the dispensary, and other activities.
    • Maintains and provides necessary records and documentation to support grant specific audits.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

     

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or equivalent training and experience, required.
    • 5-7 years’ experience in an accounting position, required, preferably in a non-profit organization.
    • Knowledge of grants management and reporting preferred.
    • Strong systems background using an integrated financial software package. Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge a plus. 
    • Knowledge of FAR, CFR as well as GAAP/FASB standards
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong Excel skills required
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
    • Must have a solid record of handling confidential information and data 
    • Strong leadership and management skills. 
    • Ability to work both independently and on a team; managing multiple tasks/projects at a time

           WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Must be able to sit/stand at a desk in a regular office environment.
    • Must be able to read fine print on paper, computer, and databases; lift 10 lbs.
