    Would you like to help ensure the literary arts thrive in Rhode Island? LitArts RI is seeking an experienced Executive Director to help take the organization to the next level by leading our staff, growing our development efforts and supporting the Board. This is a fulltime position with benefits based at our Center in Providence, with some remote work possible. 

    ABOUT THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ROLE

    This is a role for someone who can roll their sleeves up to run a small organization while also being able to look up and reach out to inspire a community-wide excitement about the literary arts in our state. The ED need not be a creative writer but should be a fan of the literary arts.

    The ED reports to the Board, leads daily operations, and helps the organization improve outreach, offerings, fundraising and Board development in accordance with its strategic framework. The ED will (in order of importance):

    • Expand development and earned income, particularly by growing fundraisers, sponsors and donors (our grants game is already strong!)
    • Manage a small team of staff, contractors, and volunteers
    • Build partnerships, raise the organization’s profile and serve as a spokesperson to garner broad public support
    • Oversee programming and offerings to meet the needs of creative artists as well as the lovers of the literary arts
    • Coordinate with the Board and support its growth and evolution
    • Fine tune administration, customer service and management of the physical space

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

    Has proven they can succeed as a nonprofit leader through making sure operations are smooth and the bottom line is solid. Making a difference in creatives’ lives, by enabling their work while bringing the excitement of living in a literary powerhouse of a state to the public, is part of your personal mission.

    Your experience should include:

    • Multiple years of supervisory experience of paid staff and volunteers
    • Development experience including seeking sponsorships and major gifts, and running fundraisers
    • Financial acumen including the ability to create and manage to a budget, review QuickBooks Online and supervise bookkeeping
    • Strong public-facing skills including customer service and partner relations
    • Experience serving on the executive committee of a nonprofit board and/or as an ED working with an active board

    Other requirements:

    • A driver’s license and access to a vehicle for off-site meetings 
    • Spanish language fluency is a bonus
    • The ability to work occasional evenings and weekend days on site
    • Rhode Island residency is strongly preferred

    The salary range for this position is $85-100k depending on experience. Benefits include $500/month toward health insurance, paid holidays and vacation.
