    Description

    The mission of Maine People’s Alliance is to create a world where everyone has what they need, contributes what they can, and no one is left behind. By forming community with people from all walks of life, we build power, inspire new leaders, heal divisions—particularly across lines of race—and win campaigns that change what is politically possible. With more than 32,000 members across Maine, MPA is the state's largest community action organization.     MPA is currently accepting inquiries to hire a Lobbyist, a full-time, salaried position that reports to the Policy Director. Major responsibilities include: 

    • Growing new and deepening existing relationships between elected officials, their staff and MPA;  
    • Researching and developing policy ideas, and crafting MPA's agenda; 
    • Assessing and analyzing the evolving power dynamics and policy priorities of the legislature, the administration, and other political power centers in Maine, especially on MPA's top issues; 
    • Connecting MPA members to legislators and the legislative process; 
    • Collaboratively developing and executing legislative strategy with MPA staff, volunteers, and allies;  
    • Communicating the details and holistic view of our agenda and strategy internally to staff and members and externally to lawmakers, allies, and other stakeholders. 

    Qualifications: 

    • Strong commitment to progressive values; 
    • Track record of working on racial and economic justice, preferably with strong relationships to communities of color and other marginalized Mainers; 
    • Excellent relational skills with people of varied economic, political, and geographic backgrounds; 
    • Excellent judgment in a high-pressure, complex, political context; 
    • Proficient in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications; 
    • Detail oriented, with an eye towards managing a wide variety of information and needs while meeting deadlines in a rapidly changing context; 
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook 
    • A willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and occasional weekends; 
    • Some experience in the realms of fundraising, communications, or field organizing for advocacy organizations or political campaigns preferred. 

    The position is unionized and full-time at a competitive wage in the range of $58-$75,000, depending on experience.  Open until filled.
