    Yale Peabody Museum Seasonal Store Manager


    POSITION FOCUS:

    The Yale Peabody Museum seeks a retail professional responsible for expanding the museum visitor's experience by offering creative and exciting merchandise related to the collections and exhibitions. The Assistant Manager exhibits excellent day to day management skills, team leadership, and keeps the store in good condition. The Seasonal Assistant Manager is key member of the museum's Visitor Experience team and is dedicated to creating a welcoming shopping experience for all visitors and staff.


    This is a 6 month position beginning in late August through January.

    14.5 hrs a week on average with more during the holiday season: November - December, $30.29 an hour, weekends and holidays required, specifically store designated Shopping Days and the week after Christmas through the New Year. This is a seasonal/holiday position.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    Open and close the Museum Store in adherence to store procedures

    Plan and oversee all phases of the operation of the Museum Store when Store manager is

    not in Store

    Manage inventory levels

    Participates in visual merchandising of the Museum Store.

    Promotes sales by demonstrating merchandise and products to customers.

    Helps customers by providing information, answering questions

    Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting including daily deposits, month end

    reports, annual inventory counts

    Develop, promote, and model and inclusive work environment that is welcoming and

    supportive for all staff and visitors


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required Education and Experience:


    Three years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.


    Work Experience: Retail background in operations, visual merchandising, merchandise management. Preference for experience working in a museum retail environment. Passionate about museums and natural history.

    Skills and Abilities: Experience leading the work of others, excellent people skills, organized, detail-oriented, analytical, flexible, self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills, experience with a POS system and Windows programs, intermediate experience with Excel to manage inventory database and financial reporting.


    Excited to learn about the Peabody exhibits and translate understanding into better merchandising and customer service.


    Able to show dynamic leadership, create a positive work environment, motivate staff for maximum performance.

    Advanced customer service skills with an ability to provide a welcoming, engaging, and friendly demeanor towards our visitors and staff to provide a positive customer experience.


    Strong verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills and enjoy interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds.


    Fluency in a foreign language a plus.


    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Physical Demands: Able to lift 25 pounds unassisted and stand for long periods of time
