    Description

    Communities Resist (“CoRe”), seeks a Grants Writing Consultant to join a team combating gentrification, displacement, social and structural injustice through tenant organizing and affirmative litigation for low-income communities of color across Brooklyn and Queens. CoRe is a legal services organization for housing and community justice steeped in the 50-year tradition of community lawyering in Brooklyn and Queens. In these communities, we have spent years working together with neighborhood organizations and organizers in representing hundreds of tenants and tenant associations. Our representation has aimed to assist them with enforcing their right to social citizenship by struggling, resisting, and enduring against any attempts to deny working communities, largely of color, their place and their agency. CoRe has arisen out of a collective effort of these communities to ensure that this unique model continues unchanged. 

    The Grant Writing Consultant will serve as the organization’s primary consultant-strategist on the application and receipt of city, state, federal, foundation and private grants. They will work in collaboration with the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and other members of the CoRe team to successfully research, recommend, draft, submit and follow-up on grant opportunities. 

    KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Research funding opportunities from varied sources, including:
    • Grant Databases (such as Candid);
    • Community Foundations;
    • New York City Council (Speaker Initiatives, Borough Delegations; Individual Member Items);
    • Executive Agencies (including Federal, State, Mayoral, Boroughwide)
    • New York State Legislature;
    • Consultant shall also work with allied organizations to discover and secure grant opportunities;
    • Write grants and ensure that all material is collected from CoRe team members and submitted in a timely manner;
    • Complete grant follow-up and reports, in concert with CoRe’s Grants Manager, in the timely manner;
    • Assist with the coordination of periodic (including annual) fundraising events, in concert with an assigned agency point person.
    •  Work with allied organizations to discover and secure grant
    • opportunities;

    Qualifications

    Applicants should have the following qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree: Preferably in a relevant field such as English, Communications, Business Administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
    • Master’s Degree: Optional but beneficial, especially in a specialized area related to grant writing, public policy, or nonprofit management.
    • Grant Writing Experience: At least 3-5 years of proven experience in writing and securing grants from various sources, including government agencies, foundations, grant databases and corporations.
    • Nonprofit Sector Experience: Experience working in or with nonprofit organizations, understanding their operations, challenges, and funding needs.
    • Familiarity (or willingness to quickly become familiar) with government grant opportunities New York City Council (Speaker Initiatives, Borough Delegations; Individual Member Items); Community Foundations; Executive Agencies (including Federal, State, Mayoral, Boroughwide); New York State Legislature.
    •  Experience in managing multiple projects, adhering to deadlines, and coordinating with various stakeholders.
