Our organizational mission is to work with communities pushed forward by the struggle to strengthen leadership and to provide popular political and economic education for personal and social transformation. We build relationships with organizations and networks across the U.S. and global South to inform our local work in Atlanta and to engage in bottom‑up movement building for social and economic justice.

    ROLE & PURPOSE: The Membership Communications Specialist is a full-time position on the Project South Staff Team and is generally responsible for supporting internal and external communications systems that engage local, regional, and national members and partners, supporting grassroots fundraising efforts, and coordinating with regional and national partners in conjunction with all organizational programs to advance the mission, vision, and principles of Project South.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Membership Engagement & Communication

    • Develops and implements systems and strategies to communicate effectively and consistently with members, partners, and stakeholders of the organization
    • Supports and facilitates opportunities for sustained engagement with existing members and partners
    • Facilitates the development and online access to information and resources
    • curated from Project South projects, programs, and educational materials
    • Handles, and delegates as appropriate, all questions, information requests, and complaints regarding membership and Project South programs
    • Coordinates and supports regular external communications that engage membership in the political moment and opportunities to act, including online and social media
    • Works with Communications Team to produce and distribute internal & external communications materials, specifically: monthly email updates to members, contacts, and donors; biannual newsletters; individual correspondence; digital and hard copy reports and educational tools; and member engagement packets
    • Coordinates systems to support direct and consistent communication with members and partners to respond to requests and inquiries

    Data Management and Analysis

    • Coordinates and increases the effectiveness of information technologies and database systems to document, track, and support Project South’s relationship with members and partners
    • Initiates and completes regular updates to Project South’s CRM database (Salesforce) to ensure accurate information and that contacts receive all designated communications
    • Conducts weekly and monthly audits of data to confirm use of accurate data entry processes. Proactively leads regular database hygiene and maintenance efforts, including duplicate management, and updates of specific datasets
    • Identifies, tracks, and reports on key metrics, and creates customized reports and dashboards for programmatic and fundraising efforts
    • Works with IT to monitor and maintain Salesforce integration with third-party data sources and import and export data with third party applications, as necessary
    • Provides basic training to staff members to support list development for importing and exporting member, organizing, donor data
    • Supports and manages upload of data and provides exported lists based on requests
    • Improves and enhances systems to meet the current and future needs of the resource development, partnership cultivation, and organizing work of Project South

    Skills required:

    • 3-5 years of communications and database experience with non-profit and/or social justice organizations
    • Experience with database administration, querying relational databases, and knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
    • Friendly, detail-oriented person with basic familiarity of database systems and solid writing capabilities. Comfortability with basic graphic design, a plus.
    • Experience with data integrity, security, database maintenance and management.
    • Experience in project management, testing procedures, and implementation.
    • Experience using database software including import/export and reporting tools.
    • Problem analysis and problem resolution skills required
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and high degree of discretion dealing with confidential and sensitive information
    • Excellent communication skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications; Salesforce is beneficial
