    Accountant - Nonprofit

    Full-Time

    HYBRID WORK ENVIRONMENT – 3 DAYS PER WEEK IN OFFICE

    Salary Range - $50,000-$52,000

    The National Association of School Resource Officers, NASRO, is the world’s leader in school-based policing. NASRO is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1991 for school-based law enforcement officers, school administrators, and school security and/or safety professionals who work as partners to protect schools and their students, faculty, and staff members. We are seeking an experienced, high-performing accounting professional to support our operations in Hoover, AL.

     

    Responsibilities to be shared among two office accountants:

     

    Accounts Receivable:

    • Invoice incoming registrations
    • Record and reconcile credit card income
    • Contact customers regarding outstanding invoices
    • Record invoices in QuickBooks
    • Issue credit memos for cancellations and process registration changes
    • Enter payments and create deposits
    • Process refunds, cancellations and transfers
    • Assess grant recipient eligibility, notify agency, invoice under appropriate grant program
    • Reconcile class and conference rosters to QuickBooks Desktop

    Accounts Payable:

    • Process vendor paperwork and enter invoices as requested
    • Gather 1099 related detail from vendors
    • Process expense reports and issue payments
    • Issue payments to agencies and state associations at the conclusion of classes
    • Process and mail 1099’s annually

    Accounting & General:

    • Deposit checks weekly
    • Process journal entries and adjustments in accounting system
    • Reconcile accounts and reports as needed
    • Assist with answering main telephone line and direct calls as needed
    • Assist customers with registrations and website access
    • Create and maintain various activity tracking spreadsheets
    • Arrange travel for trainings, conferences, exhibitions and meetings
    • Post to NASRO Facebook page/social media as requested
    • Send e-blasts as needed
    • Sell and ship NASRO merchandise
    • Filing, special projects and audit preparation assistance as requested

    Performance Criteria:

    • Motivation to work independently, possess detail orientation and take responsibility in a collaborative, creative nonprofit enterprise
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and effectively meet work demands
    • Strong aptitude for numbers, spreadsheets, and financial reports
    • Ability to use 10-key by touch, with accuracy and handle high volumes of daily data
    • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively orally and in writing
    • Ability to work well with team members
    • Ability to multi-task in dynamic environment
    • Customer service orientation
    • Nonprofit mission orientation
    • Travel to annual conference required

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of Associates degree in business, accounting or relevant field
    • Minimum of two years’ bookkeeping and/or accounting experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of office systems and basic business procedures
    • Experience maintaining spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel
    • Working knowledge of QuickBooks, Microsoft Office and data management software
    • Demonstrated experience processing journal entries and adjustments
    • Experience performing account reconciliations
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Experience planning large events helpful, but not required
    • Exposure or basic knowledge of website development a plus
    • Nonprofit experience helpful, but not required
