    The Lymphoma Research Foundation (the Foundation) seeks a Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO will be responsible for financial and business operations and shaping and delivering the strategic imperatives of the organization. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO leads a four-person team and has primary responsibility for the organization’s financial and business operations. This role also works closely with the entire senior leadership team to support their work and fulfill the organization's mission.

    The Lymphoma Research Foundation is the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted to funding innovative research and serving the lymphoma community through a comprehensive series of education programs, outreach initiatives, and patient services. The Foundation’s mission is to eradicate lymphoma and serve those impacted by the disease. With the guidance of the Foundation’s prestigious Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), the Foundation invests in the research and scientists which have the greatest potential to improve our understanding of lymphomas and lead to improved treatment options for patients. To date, the Foundation has funded more than $80 million in research focused on the origins and treatment of lymphoma.

    Through comprehensive disease guides and publications, in-person conferences, and online resources, the Foundation provides education for people with lymphoma, as well as their loved ones and caregivers.     About the Opportunity

    The Foundation is seeking a strategic thinker who understands how finance and operations support the broader mission of a non-profit organization to join as COO. The ideal candidate will bring a depth of experience in managing teams and business operations, supporting cross-functional collaboration, developing staff, goalsetting, and strategic development. The position is based in the Foundation’s New York City office; please note that the organization currently utilizes a flex schedule, and all New York- based staff are required to work in the Foundation office weekly Tuesday-Thursday; staff may elect to work remotely Mondays and Fridays. The salary range for this position is $200,000 to $250,000 annually.

    Responsibilities

    Finance

    • Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records and reports
    • Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing analysis and recommendations as needed
    • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other federal/state requirements
    • In partnership with the CEO and the Controller, manage the annual budgeting process, working closely with the senior staff to develop department budgets
    • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the CEO, Treasurer and Board of Directors
    • Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support financial planning and organization decision-making
    • Manage the Foundation’s banking accounts and relationships
    • Manage the Foundation’s investment portfolio at the direction of its Investment Committee and external advisors
    • Oversee and manage the annual audit as well as tax filings and compliance requirements

    Operations

    • Oversee Foundation operations and employee productivity, supporting a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organization goals are met
    • Responsible for oversight, input and developing best practices for Human Resources functions, including regular review and updates of the Employee Handbook and other organization policies
    • Oversee business relationship with professional employer organization (PEO) and retirement plan advisors; ensure accuracy and timely processing of payroll, employee benefits, and retirement plan
    • Ensure compliance with all federal and state labor law and employment practices
    • Oversee processes for staff performance evaluations and compensation review; maintain pay grade scale
    • Support staff recruitment, onboarding and talent retention strategies
    • Oversee organization insurance policies and planning
    • Work with IT consultants to develop and implement new technologies that best meet the needs of the organization
    • Liaise with Foundation legal counsel, including review of relevant documents and contracts
    • Risk management
    • Oversee physical facilities and assets
    • Identify, select, and work with key consultants and advisors

    Strategy/Senior Leadership

    • Foster a culture of collaboration, respect and commitment to the Foundation mission
    • Develop, lead and coach the Finance, Operations and IT staff
    • Serve as member of senior leadership team
    • Work with Foundation Board of Directors and support key councils
    • Oversee annual goal setting processes in partnership with the CEO

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred
    • At least 15 years of relevant experience, with minimum 5 years in the non-profit sector
    • Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets and investments, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance
    • Ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a workforce and the processes which ensure the organization runs smoothly
    • Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
    • Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate professional and effective working relationships
